KORAIL Pass Rules Every Visitor Should Know

  • Unlike European rail passes, KTX fares are fixed: Point-to-point KTX prices in South Korea do not surge at the last minute. A Seoul → Busan KTX Economy ticket costs ₩59,800 whether you book 30 days ahead or 20 minutes before departure (provided seats remain available).
  • Point-to-point usually wins for a single round-trip: A simple Seoul ↔ Busan round-trip costs ₩119,600 total, which is cheaper than the 2-Day Select KORAIL Pass (₩138,000 Adult / ₩128,000 Saver). However, if you add Gyeongju, Jeonju, Gangneung, or Yeosu—or make a same-day KTX return—the KORAIL Pass pays off.
  • Does not cover SRT or city subways: The KORAIL Pass is valid on KORAIL KTX, KTX-Sancheon, KTX-Eum, ITX-Saemaeul, ITX-Cheongchun, and Mugunghwa trains (including 2 free Economy seat reservations per day), but does not cover Suseo SRT trains, the AREX airport train, or city metro lines (use a T-money card for subways and buses).
