👑 KING SEJONG'S 1443 ALPHABET · INTERACTIVE HANGUL BLOCK BUILDER (자음 + 모음 + 받침)

1. Build & Hear Any Hangul Syllable Block Live

Unlike English letters written in a straight line, Korean Hangul (한글) stacks an Initial Consonant (초성) + a Vowel (중성) + an optional Final Consonant / Batchim (종성 받침) into a single syllable block. Select any consonant, vowel, and batchim below—Ordered in official Korean dictionary order—to assemble the live Unicode character and hear it spoken:

안

Pronunciation: an (ㅇ + ㅏ + ㄴ)

Travel word example: 안녕하세요 (Annyeonghaseyo) — Hello!

2. Clickable Hangul Alphabet Soundboard & Visual Mnemonics (Tap Any Tile for Audio)

3. Dual Korean Number Trainer: Native Korean (하나·둘·셋) vs. Sino-Korean (일·이·삼)

South Korea uses two different number systems every day. Picking the right one at a restaurant is easy once you know the rule:

🅰️ Native Korean (고유어 숫자: 하나, 둘, 셋, 넷)

Use for: Counting people (명 myeong), items (개 gae), bottles/cups (병 byeong / 잔 jan), and hours of the clock (시 si). (Note: 1, 2, 3, 4 shorten to 한, 두, 세, 네 before a counter!)

🅱️ Sino-Korean (한자어 숫자: 일, 이, 삼, 사)

Use for: Korean Won prices (원 won), KBBQ meat servings (인분 inbun), subway lines (호선 hoseon) & exits (번 출구), minutes (분 bun), floors (층), and phone numbers.

한 명이에요 (Han myeong-ieyo)

1 Person at a restaurant (Uses Native Korean 한 + 명)

Why Learning Hangul Takes Only 15 Minutes Before Your Trip

Commissioned by King Sejong the Great in 1443 (and promulgated in 1446 as Hunminjeongeum, "The Proper Sounds for the Instruction of the People"), Hangul was specifically engineered so anyone could learn to read in a single morning. Many Korean café menus, bus stops, and pharmacy signs are actually English loanwords written in Hangul—such as 아메리카노 (A-me-ri-ka-no), 택시 (Taek-si), 호텔 (Ho-tel), 엘리베이터 (El-li-be-i-teo), and 치즈 (Chi-jeu). Once you recognize the 14 basic consonants and 10 core vowels above, hundreds of signs across South Korea unlock immediately.
